The ensemble 'The brighter the sunlight the darker the shadows' consists of 24 drawings/collages. They were inspired by photographs taken during a walk in the Japanese Garden in Vilvoorde on a sunny autumn day. It was not the bright sunlight but the shadows that caught my attention. I started with studies and drawings, mainly trying to isolate and explore the shapes of the shadows. The use of the analogue/digital collage technique and various drawing materials, allows me to work freely each time. Shadows create depth, light sets the mood. An attractive composition gives the collages a harmonious look and draws the viewer's attention to the right point.
